Forum Topic: Understanding Zithromax Capsules Appearance
Posted by: HealthyCurious
Hi everyone! I was prescribed Zithromax for an infection but didn't get to ask the doctor what it looks like. Does anyone know how a Zithromax capsule should look? Just want to make sure I have the right medication before taking it.

Hello HealthyCurious! Good question. Zithromax capsules can vary slightly in appearance depending on whether they are generic or brand name, and also based on their dosage. Generally:
- Brand Name (Zithromax):
- 100mg Capsule: Usually oblong-shaped, white to off-white in color.
250mg Capsule: Typically larger than the 100mg capsule, it's usually more orange and oval-shaped.
Generic Variants (Azithromycin):
- These can vary widely depending on the manufacturer. Some might be slightly different colors (like light blue or pink), but they should all have "AZI" marked on them.
If you are unsure, do not hesitate to reach out to your pharmacist for a visual confirmation. Safety first!

Thank you so much DrMedicineMan! That helps a lot. I noticed mine is off-white and oblong-shaped; it seems like the 100mg variant.

You're welcome, HealthyCurious! And yes, based on your description, that does sound like the standard appearance of a 100 mg Zithromax capsule. Just to be extra safe, always check for an expiration date and any other markings or labels provided by your pharmacy.
If there's anything else you need help with or if the medication looks different from what has been described here, it might be wise to get in touch with your healthcare provider.
